Always In The Kitchen
Combining forces for the multidisciplinary art festival Always In The Kitchen, Gouvernement and CAMPO reunite artists and audience in a familiar yet disturbing setting: an IKEA®-kitchen. For three weeks the space is challenged by curators, theatre makers and artists. An unusual context emerges and acts as the blank canvas for the different disciplines, while obtaining multiple layers with every happening.
From off-beat installations and theatrical kitchen scenes to in situ art works and total sensory experiences, nothing, not even the freezers or stoves, will be spared. Week I focuses on theatre & text, week II evolves around visual arts and week III casts a light on cross-overs between music, performance, video and much more.
Week III: Closing party

After three weeks of all kinds of invasive and visual happenings, we open the kitchen doors one last time before ONBETAALBAAR takes the wheel. For the closing event of the festival, we throw a fitting party between the sticky, creative remnants of the past weeks. What was Jona Lewie singing again?

This engaged pair will make the Inox of your soul reflect like a recently polished induction stove. Expect a hand-blended combination of strained melodies. Grease your oven gloves, supply yourself with an appropriate herbal mix, uncork the bottle and mix those cocktails, for in the kitchen there will always be some ice left “in den bak”.
Afterwards, the self-proclaimed makers’ collective ONBETAALBAAR rejuvenates the kitchen and gives it a second life by transforming its material into irresistibly handy, peculiar and unique objects. Since the kitchen cabinets with handles and ovens for some fortune cookie baking are no longer in use, the collective for research and creation takes further care of the kitchen. Shaped by artistic actions, the remaining elements of the kitchen are given another chance to become homeware. The transformed, rejuvenated and unique objects are put on display at IKEA® Ghent. These will also be on sale during Jingle Balls, an alternative to Christmas shopping on December 14 – 16., cultural sidekick of, had a chat with Gouvernement’s artistic coordinator (and much more than that) Nele Keukelier about the festival, events and kitchen.

We also talked on air with Onbetaalbaar and IKEA Ghent about the last event of Always In The Kitchen, the impact it had and the aftermath.

What kind of remnants are we talking about? Take a look at the facebook event (theatre & text, visual art, music) or RSVP on facebook.
It’s in the press! Go read De Morgen’s visit at Gouvernement and chat with some of the artists and curators, or Het Nieuwsblad’s coverage of the festival.
Organised by CAMPO and Gouvernement, as part of Always In The Kitchen.
Many thanks to IKEA® Ghent.
