Stef Van Looveren

summer residency, Vooruit

Antwerp-based artist Stef Van Looveren is a familiar face at Gouvernement, having previously presented work during Lichtfestival Gent’s off-parcours in 2018 and Night Shift at De Studio in 2019. With studies in Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins, London, and Sint-Lucas, Antwerp, they is known for them multidisciplinary and genderfluid practice. From video installation and photo, through sculpture, to performance and all other things theatrical, Van Looveren uses each action as an attempt to reflect and dismantle the performativity of our human behaviour, primarily within the notion of gender. Playfully mimicking our social conducts along with visual culture, them work moves towards a surreal gesture.

With an exciting new GHOST-edition at Vooruit in sight, Van Looveren uses them residency time to further elaborate several ideas such as the creation of a special knife sculpture fitting the festival’s chosen themes perfectly.

Triggered? Because so are we! The sculpture will be presented at the GHOST-festival. Them public moment therefore doesn’t conclude them residency, but will be on view for a week in this ‘The Shining’-inspired edition.
