HE4RTBROKEN & LEAVING DAKOTA X House of Lux

closing night, REST

part of REST

Leaving Living Dakota initiates alternative spaces for exchange and encounters around art and music. Wutangu and Golce Dabbana build both a precious community and a powerful network. Their work as promoter and curator in parties, exhibitions and concerts provides queer and POC artists with a space where they can express themselves through fine arts and music. Collaborations with collectives that are driven by the same vision also enable them to create a strong symbiosis between artists and audiences. One of these like minded collectives is the Brussels-based club collective HE4RTBROKEN. They are on a mission to bring emotions and care back into the club. Focussing on feelings and reinvention, the collective explores the club as a place of communal catharsis and healing experience. It offers a safe haven to the lone souls longing for a dance floor to cry on. On the last night of REST, they will share this haven with the Ghentian collective House of Lux.
The core members of drag collective House of Lux are Mauve Lux, Krietjur and Susan from Grindr, around them there is a pool of queer creatives. Not only do the House of Lux queens give a voice and stage to themselves, they also share the platform with other queer, glamour and identity-mingling artists. In REST too, the queens will bring an entourage of special guests for a compelling night of lip-sync performances and dj-sets.

Gouvernement & Opera Ballet Vlaanderen
REST is located in the peristyle of Opera Ghent, right behind the open doors. In the middle of the space, an installation by Decoratelier defines a semicircle. This structure is a trace of Night Shift. An event by Gouvernement and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen that couldn’t take place, but the scenography remained courageously and helped transform the space to REST. The space is a remnant, but it is a public resting point too. And for now, it is especially a space for re-opening.
During three weekends in June, REST turns into a platform for presentation. On the programm, there are some collectives that should have performed during Night Shift, but new connections are made too. That gives rise to a diverse program for which music is always central, but from that centre of gravity, the projects fan out to all corners of the artistic spectrum.
