Wassila Abboud

residency, NWNM

Wassila Abboud is a researcher and cultural worker, based between Amsterdam and Beirut. Her project a structured reasoning of a total chaotic space, is an on-going research project focusing on Lebanese Marxist philosopher Mahdi Amel, This project sits at the intersection of political theory, memory, and artistic experimentation, and asks how one might create a structured reasoning of a total chaotic space—a phrase that echoes Amel’s attempts to theorize within and against the chaos of Western Imperialism and it’s internal dialectic effects.
Her time will be spent exploring ways to move beyond the archive and into a more experimental phase of the work. She’ll be situated at the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam, building on existing research, with over one thousand pieces of Amel’s archival material at the IIHS.
