For his research Dark Habits, Simon Van Schuylenbergh – together with other performers from the Ne mosquito pas network – creates short group performances in which they talk about unspoken morality. By perverting conservative values, they attempt to open a gray zone in which we can rethink our own values.
Dark Habits shows and explores the underlying spiritual motivations that our community and art protects or generates by staging them in the context of various spiritual tropes and imaginations: The Church, New age cults, Satanist cults, faith of the faithless. Through that “staging” we look for possible inner contradictions, dark habits, hidden agendas and paranoid reasoning and play with their possible downfall.
