Mitch Van Landeghem is writing a monologue about an undefinable yet untamable longing for faith and the idea that there’s no single conventional religion that seems to offer sufficient comfort. Especially in today’s day and age. It deals with a personal, but perhaps a more widely shared – even political – desire for something bigger. Something that overarches in an era in which we are ripped apart. “An angel is a belief”, Hannah says in Angels in America, “but with wings and arms that can carry you. And if it can’t hold you up, seek for something new”.
For this writing process Mitch received a scholarship from Monty and De Nwe Tijd. He will be continuing his work during a residency in De Grote Post in spring 2021.
