Jolien Van Goethem

residency, NWNM

Jolien Van Goethem is a mixed media artist. Her largely autobiographical work develops intuitively and creates a safe space for exploring pain, grief and healing, especially from a cripped and neurodivergent perspective. Her work explores the narratives that emerge from the possibilities and limitations of language, seeking a deeper connection with nature and her environment.

Grief is a language. During her residency at Weder, an ecological flower farm, Jolien will begin her research into creating an alternative language that expresses feelings of grief and mourning through floriography, the symbolism of flowers. In spring 2025, this research will take further shape by sharing this language through a textile work.
