Does Vandousselaere suddenly saw his life as a succession of economic infiltrations. He also numbered these infiltrations and now calls his method Economic Residencies. After Truck-Stop CC and his infiltration into a truck export business in Wielsbeke, he now plants his feet in the Ghent Canal Zone for Economic Residency #4.
He goes door-to-door at industrial companies to set up a studio there, enters with an excuse, builds relationships, and becomes part of the economic fabric. Economic Residency #4 will last several years; in this thrilling first step, the industrial company is conquered.
As an artist/engineer, he explores what a fictional engineer can mean in a story about this port economy. By trying to become part of a company, he confronts himself emotionally with his craving for ambition, his aversion to competition, and his make-believe competence. This confrontation generates emotional material with which he creates work and attempts to make himself vulnerable.
