Get to know Nikolaas better
Nikolaas Demoen’s oeuvre questions the position and role of the artwork and artist. He also confides us that you don’t have to expect a uniform answer to those questions, but rather a series of serene poetic images. Cornerpiece bathes in those elements: vibing on the rhythm of a long repetitive text and ditto drum solo, characters appear and disappear around the corner – which, by the way, is a wooden sculpture based on the corners of a façade and sidewalk. That very familiar ‘going around the corner’ is suddenly put on a pedestal, overviewing variations in text, language and appearances of the characters.
