Presentation Interne 11: buren
Interne 11 buren presents their residency presentation during Tumult in Gent 6 a one-day art festival at De Krook.
During TIG #6 buren shows an installation with visual footage, video and audio clips linked to their research for the theatre show ‘Blue Skies Forever’.
About ‘Blue Skies Forever’:
Departing from an interest in how women are being portrayed in cinema, advertisement, magazines (and the often tragic reality behind the image), buren created to two characters: Dorothy & Officer. Associative links and references were at the base of this research, inspired by the characters of the video ‘Ever is Over All’ (Pipilotti Rist), Beyoncé’s music video ‘Hold Up’, Dorothy from the ‘Wizard of Oz’, Dorothy Stratten – a murdered playboy bunny – and Marge Gunderson from ‘Fargo’ (the movie), as well as Sonja Blade, a mortal combat fighter. In searching how to imagine, re-imagine, refigure and reconfigure these figures, they jump in and out of their clothes, again and again and again. The collective buren (Oshin Aelbrecht & Melissa Mabesoone) arose in 2012 and combines performances, video, installations, prints, objects and film. Their work navigates through themes such as the female, community, living, sexuality, pop music and neoliberal fantasies, using irony, humour and imagination as their tools.

*INTERNEN is Gouvernement’s residency program focused on research, experiment and leaving comfort zones. Participants will be granted 4 weeks of investigation in an embryonic process. Be it very first steps or off-track manoeuvres, the accent lies on development rather than result. It’s about trying, failing and trying again.
