Jakob Van den Broucke

Performance, speech
Get to know Jakob better
Jakob van den Broucke uses and nearly abuses sociology, photography and text in an eye-brow-raising ménage à trois. The triggers? Concepts, contexts and sudden ideas or haunting excuses, urging him to fall back on his growing archive of pictures and personal entries. He’s somewhere between ‘make’ and ‘make believe’, and what appears as a foolish idea is now seriously executed. The results? Think books (such as his recent De mentaliteit is van plastiek), autonomous and serial works, installations and speeches – titled Spiegel Speech, he showcases that last one at Night Shift. It’s a speech or a web of references and associations in which the calculated risk to not be fully understood will be taken. He’s got our attention now.
