Mary Ocher plays live film score (Film Fest Gent)

Concert / with Vooruit

Wed 18.10 → 20:00-23:30

Brand new project by Berlin underground queen Mary Ocher

Mary Ocher played just last May in Gouvernement. Given that everyone was blown away by this highly unique avant-pop goddess, we naturally had to get her back to Ghent somehow. This time she’s here to present brand-spanking-new work and, like Roman Hiele, to become one of Vooruit’s resident musicians. The Berlin treasure is currently at Gouvernement working away on a new audiovisual project. During New Sounds For Celluloid, Ocher will interpret footage on-site to come up with an accompanying live score. Those who are already a little familiar with her bizarre, hilariously absurd videos will know to expect a one-of-a-kind experience.
Ocher skips between raw folk, Velvet Underground-esque garage rock, plastic synthpop with twisted African rhythms and ethereal ambient. Her most recent LP ‘The West Against The People’ is undoubtedly one of the strongest records of 2017. Its tracks central themes include geopolitics, immigration and alienation. In these politically-charged cluster-bombs, Ocher’s unique voice is the guiding light: think Grace Slick and Kate Bush.
