What is present in the neutral space, a perfectly empty and quiet place, before you, as an artist, can create, achieve or exhibit work there? And what exactly are the characteristics of that vacant and quiet place? Those are the central questions that percussionist Eric Thielemans, the brand new music resident of (Kunstencentrum) Vooruit, tries to unravel through his innovative research project called ‘The Color in Shadow. A research for the subtle qualities of resonances in the spaces between things’. The ultimate goal: designing a manual in order to research empty rooms.

As part of his residency, Vooruit and Gouvernement plan four evenings during which Thielemans will engage in conversation with other artists and researchers about spaces and noise, accompanied by a live performance. Each evening will be registered through recordings, notes and drawings.
