From theatre maker and actor, over musician and lecturer, to technician, handyman to ‘jack-of-all-trades’: Michiel Soete really does it all. Interweaving all of his projects is his social and artistic approach and specific location-oriented contexts.

“It is one of the most beautiful ways of entering the neighbourhood: the gate to a largely unknown piece of Ghent.” A scenic route from Oostakker to Kerkbrugge-Langerbrugge, the ferry intrigues Soete in many ways. During his residency, he stays on a boat in the port from which he researches the territory and the unique connection between those two places. He develops several actions that each cast a light on the place and surroundings, always with a humourous touch and a nod to tourism-critique. For his first try-out he collaborates with a.o. the clientele of OBRA|Baken testing the public webcam of the ferry. A short story becomes visualised through stop motion and is on view on VLOOT’s website. This Fall, Soete plans on continuing the webcam project, as well as concocting bigger actions.

“Het is een van de mooiste manieren om de wijk binnen te geraken: de toegangspoort naar een voor velen ongekend stukje Gent.” Het pont, de overzetboot van Oostakker naar Kerkbrugge-Langerbrugge, intrigeert Soete. Tijdens zijn residentieweken verblijft hij in een boot in de haven en onderzoekt van daaruit het grondgebied en de unieke verbinding tussen die twee plekken. Hij werkt aan verschillende acties die de plaats en omgeving uitlichten, telkens met een vleugje humor en enige toerisme-kritiek. Als eerste try-out gaat hij o.a. in samenwerking met het cliënteel van OBRA|Baken de openbare webcam aan de overzet uittesten. Een kort verhaal wordt stop-motion-gewijs in beeld gebracht en is integraal te zien op de website van VLOOT. Dit najaar zal Michiel verder werken aan het webcam-traject, alsook een grotere actie ondernemen.
