Lysandre Begijn studied sculpture at KASK, Ghent, but paintings have been her key medium lately. In Gouvernement, she presents her most recent works about imaginary landscapes and faces. Primordial images that are expressed in colourful forms, stacked and brought over and on the canvas as transparent veils. An inner echo of archetypical images.
Fia Cielen studied at KASK and HISK, Ghent. Her drawings, sculptures and installations are inspired by masks, rituals, transformations and the monstrous. Based on masks from both horror movies and folklore, it’s about the possibility of transforming a human identity to a more primitive, wild form.
Transformers combines the work of both artists in a composition that compels the visitor in a parallel universe. Yorgos Tsakiridis (Bed Rugs, Borokov Borokov, The Hickey Underworld) and Mathias MU (visual artist and musician) bring a musical performance on the opening night.
