Get to know Ilke better
Drawing on her previous lives as a professional tennis player and graphic designer, Ilke Gers investigates the human body in designed systems. Her interventions evoke the ways by which our movement and behaviour are choreographed by the rules and conditions of our environments. Taking the form of physical games open-scripted performances, or interventions in public space, her works experiment with how given structures can be re-imagined by generating a space for encounter and experience. This can be seen in the series Language Fields – artistic floor works that resemble playable game surfaces – of which a part will be on view during Night Shift. Flirting with crossovers between the structures and codes of sports fields markings and the typographic form of language, the installation Playmachine will also act as an underlying structure for the scenography.
